- Read an issue of a health and social care magazine that you have access to in your setting. What topics are practitioners currently concerned about?
- Look at the Skills for Care website for information about continuous professional development (CPD). Click on the web icon to the left to access this page.
- Access your local authority’s course guide for health and social care workers. Are there any courses that you could attend? Many local authorities run evening sessions, so time away from work is not always necessary.
- Take a look at some further websites that will help you gain knowledge or qualifications in areas that interest you.
- Where do you see yourself in three years time? How will you get there? What qualifications or learning will you need? Use the three year planning sheet we have provided. Mark on this sheet your CPD needs and goals for achievement. Look at this plan regularly to check your progress.
- Organise a team-building activity for your team, where each of you must take a different role in order to achieve the goal of the activity. Visit the Venture Team Building website for ideas of team-building activities
- Find a copy of the ‘Candidate Handbook for the Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care, published by Heinemann, and read the relevant pages from the handbook on personal development plans. NB. You should be able to borrow this book from your local library or it may be available online as an electronic version. Laser Learning is not suggesting that this book is more suitable than others available to learners. Be sure to look at a variety of books.
