Case Study
You have just answered the telephone at your setting and the caller says that they are from Social Services and that they need the new home address and telephone number of one of the children. You know where that information is kept and can quickly and easily deal with this call.
- What are your responsibilities with regard to confidentiality of the child’s information?
- How should you deal with this call?
- Does the fact that it is Social Services asking for the information make any difference to the way you respond to this request, if so, how?
It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the response you have chosen to this scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague and ask them to tell you if they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your tutor.
