Be able to support the nutrition and hydration of babies and young children in an Early Years Setting
Table of Contents
Case Study
Your setting has just introduced a new menu, based on the government’s ‘Example menus for early years settings in England’. It includes moussaka, ragu, and risotto, and introduces a wide range of fruit, vegetables, protein and starches.
Several of the parents have been commenting on the new menu and saying that they would not even try some of the new dishes. Often, they are saying this in front of their children.
- What can you do to get support from the parents for this new menu?
- How important are the parents’ attitudes to the new foods?
- What strategies can you use to share information with parents/carers about the importance of healthy balanced diets for nutrition, well-being and oral health?
It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the response you have chosen to this scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague and ask them to tell you if they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your tutor.
