Case Study
Your manager has asked you to work at a different play setting for a week to cover staff illness. You arrive in the setting and help set the activities up.When the children, aged 3 - 4, arrive they ask the other practitioner if they can play outside. The practitioner explains that she thinks it’s too cold and dark and looks like it may rain. The children seem disappointed and go and sit on the sofa in the quiet area.
- What could you do to improve this situation?
- How can you ensure that the children’s needs are being met?
It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the response you have chosen to this scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague and ask them to tell you if they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your tutor.
