Case Study
A new parent comes to visit your school and you are asked to show her around. She is thinking of sending her son there. She is concerned because her son’s last school was badly organised and lacked direction. Achievement was low and they received a poor Ofsted rating. She has read your school’s mission statement but she wants to know if it is really put into practice, and if so how?
- What will you say to the new parent about your school’s mission statement, ethos, aims and values?
- How will you reassure her that your school reflects its mission, ethos, aims and values in its working practices?
It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the response you have chosen to this scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague and ask them to tell you if they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your tutor.
