Case Study
You are working in a senior school and have been asked to give a prescribed medicine to Lianne, a girl with ADHD. When you give the medicine to her she refuses to take it and says that it makes her sleepy and confused. When you try to encourage her to take the medicine she knocks the pot out of your hand and the tablet falls onto the floor.
- What will you do with the tablet on the floor?
- What should you do about the fact that Lianne has not had her prescribed medicine?
- What, if anything, should you do about Lianne’s claims that the medicine is causing unwanted side-effects?
It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the response you have chosen to this scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague and ask them to tell you if they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your tutor.
