Case Study

You have been asked to explain a writing task to 10 year old Nathan. The task is to write a letter to an imaginary pen pal in Australia introducing themselves and describing their life in the UK. After working with Nathan before on writing tasks and noticing his often disruptive behaviour in class when set written work, you know this is something he struggles with. He is not dyslexic.
  1. How will you explain the task to him in an engaging way and keep his attention?
  2. Is there anything you can do to make the task more manageable and build his confidence with it?
  3. What do you think are the teaching and learning objectives of this task?
It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the response you have chosen to this scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague and ask them to tell you if they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your tutor.
