Understand what is required for competence in own work role

Case Study

A former pupil at your school has approached you about becoming a teaching assistant once he has finished at college. He has all the necessary attributes of honesty, discretion, reliability, and he is hardworking, and understands and likes working with young people, but he gets bored very easily. He thinks this might be a very good thing as children often get bored quite easily and need a constant stream of interesting things and people to interact with.
  1. How would you describe your roles and responsibilities to him?
  2. Do you think the job would be good for someone wants a job that is constantly changing?
It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the response you have chosen to this scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague and ask them to tell you if they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your tutor.
