Be able to provide support for the speech, language and communication development of children and young people in the learning environment

Case Study

You are aware that there is a girl call Jasmin with speech language and communication needs in the class you support; however, you rarely see her as she is frequently withdrawn from the class to work in one-to-one situations. This means she is not really feeling included in the class and is not socialising with her peers. There is a new speech and language therapist working with Jasmin and you have heard she is very approachable.
  1. How could you make sure Jasmin is included more in the class?
  2. How could the speech and language therapist help you to make sure Jasmin is included in the class more?
  3. How could you support Jasmin to be able to socialise more with her class mates?
It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the response you have chosen to this scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague and ask them to tell you if they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your tutor.
