Be able to recognise and respond to transitions in children and young people’s lives

Case Study

You have noticed some changes in one of the children in your class. Last term Jodie was always the first to put her hand up to answer a question and her homework was well written and always on time. This term, however, she has been reluctant to participate in lessons and she rarely hands in any work. Several times you have thought she was about to burst into tears in class.
  1. What do you think could be affecting Jodie?
  2. Who should you talk to about your concerns?
It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the response you have chosen to this scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague and ask them to tell you if they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your tutor.
