Be able to use assessment strategies to promote learning

Case Study

You are supporting a small group of children who have been set the task of completing a project about Mexico. The group includes a child who is new to the UK and speaks very little English and another who struggles with reading. The group needs to create a small booklet aimed at tourists, and has also been asked to deliver a 2 minute presentation on why Mexico would be a good place to visit.
  1. What strategies would you use to assess each child’s ability?
  2. What individual learning goals do you think the two identified children could achieve?
  3. How would you support the individual children identified to achieve their learning goals?
  4. How could you ensure that the group as a whole works together to produce the intended end products?
It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the response you have chosen to this scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague and ask them to tell you if they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your tutor.
