Case Study
The Plymouth child abuse case in which a childcare practitioner abused and photographed early years children in her care has caused shock waves throughout your school; your parents want to know the school's view on members of staff using digital cameras. They ask if you feel the policies in place are good enough and what, if anything, you would change.
1. Write down what your policy will be regarding the use of digital cameras by staff. Make sure that your policy keeps children safe and considers the rights of the practitioner to take photographs for legitimate and genuine reasons.
It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the response you have chosen to this scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague and ask them to tell you if they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your tutor.
