Be able to prepare for supervising whole class learning activities

Case Study

You have been asked to cover a class that you have not covered before.  You do not know the names of the pupils, and  have not been into the classroom before and have not had the opportunity to look at the prepared work before the cover begins. Think about ways in which you can quickly address some of the issues in the scenario.
  1. How will you identify the pupil and know their names?
  2. How will you ensure the room is safe and suitable?
  3. How will you familiarise yourself with the work the pupils are to be given?
It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the response you have chosen to this scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague and ask them to tell you if they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your tutor.
