Case Study
Lucy work as an administrative assistant for a training company. She often has to print out large numbers of documents which are emailed to her, such as learning resources and PowerPoint displays. She then prepares them for customers, organising them in packs, and filing them for the various training courses that she helps to organise. The printer, which is also used for photocopying, often breaks down and although Lucy tries to fix it using the instruction book, she can’t always follow the instructions. This is causing delays to her schedule and she is getting very concerned. When Lucy asks her colleagues for help they don’t seem to know what to do either. She is getting very worried that she won’t meet her deadlines and is scared to ask her manager for help.
- What do you think Lucy should do?
- What should her colleagues do?
- How can the company make the office work more efficiently?
It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the response you have chosen to this scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague and ask them to tell you if they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your tutor.
