Case Study
Rishi has been working as a Business and Administration apprentice at Westwich Local Council for 6 months and whilst he enjoys his job he has been experiencing a few problems recently. He has been observing Ramadan for the past 2 weeks – a period of fasting, prayer, charity-giving and self-accountability for Muslims all over the world.
One of his colleagues, Marjanne brings home-made cakes into the office every week. Whilst Rishi has no problem with refusing the tempting cakes even though the rest of the team pounce on them the moment Marjanne opens the cake box; what Rishi is finding difficult is that another of his colleagues, Sunny, seems to take great delight in taunting him and waving the cakes in front of him.
He has also mocked Rishi’s faith on several occasions. He isn't sure how he should deal with this as he feels sorry for Sunny because he is wheelchair-bound – although he is finding the situation difficult.
- What do you think Rishi should do?
It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the response you have chosen to this scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague and ask them to tell you if they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your tutor.
