Case Study
At a team meeting of the group Rishi had formed to work on the housing project he showed them his work plan.
The plan gave each team member various tasks to perform with deadlines and progress to be reported and discussed at weekly meetings.
At the next meeting it seemed that no progress had been made.
Marjanne had been unable to do the research on local landlords and their properties due to a technical problem with the database. Maddie said she had not had time to sort this out due to other work priorities in the IT department.
Shiraz was unable to start preparing his presentation because he was still tied up with another project he was helping Julia with.
The meeting resulted in a few arguments as everyone felt stressed with conflicting deadlines and priorities, and they started blaming each other for the lack of progress.
- How could Rishi have done something different when he organised the team for the housing project?
-
How can he rectify the problem and move forward now to get things moving?
It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the response you have chosen to this scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague and ask them to tell you if they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your tutor.
