Case Study
Rishi, Hazira, Shiraz and Marjanne have been working hard on the first housing newsletter and have e-mailed the final draft to Julia so that she can check it prior to production and circulation.
Julia is not impressed because the information on the vacancies is out of date. Most of the properties listed are now occupied, and the properties which have recently become vacant are not listed. Julia feels that producing a document with out of date information is not fit for purpose and reflects badly on her department.
She calls Marjanne into her office to discuss and Marjanne explains that she got the data base from the housing department section of the council website. The website clearly had not been updated as new information came in.
Updating the information would take time and the deadline for production would be missed so they either send out the newsletter late with up-to-date information or send it out on time without the vacancies information.
- What do you think they should do?
- Which department does this reflect badly on?
- How can they improve the situation now?
It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the response you have chosen to this scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague and ask them to tell you if they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your tutor.
