Buddy a colleague to develop their skills

Case Study

Mehmood works in the IT department of Bookly Publishing and talks to a more senior colleague, Connie – a project manager with a lot of experience in implementing new ideas and changes to Bookly publishing, about a good idea he has had about how the company could use technology to launch a new range of e-books. Mehmood feels unsure about how to present the idea to his manager, and the effect it would have on other departments.
  1. If you were Connie, how could you buddy Mehmood to develop his skills – what skills would you focus on and how could you provide support?
  2. In your current role, if you were to buddy a more junior colleague that came to you expressing a lack of knowledge / experience in a particular area – what skills could you gain from the experience?
It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the response you have chosen to this scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague and ask them to tell you if they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your tutor.
