Case Study
You have just finished an appraisal with one of your virtual team managers who only comes into the office once a month to meet everyone. He has admitted that he is feeling lonely and disconnected from the rest of his team. He is concerned that, without stimulus from others working around him, he might be inclined to slacken off. He also feels that the information his team are giving him is sometimes inaccurate and incomplete, which means that he is passing on incorrect information to stakeholders.
- How can you tackle this issue and help the manager to feel more in control?
- How can the manager get a better understanding of what his team are doing, and ensure that the information he is receiving and sharing is accurate?
It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the response you have chosen to this scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague and ask them to tell you if they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your tutor.
