Work in partnership in health and social care or children and young people’s settings

Case Study

You have been asked to join a meeting to discuss concerns raised about a family that you have contact with. John is 14 years old and from a traveller family that has been illegally camped in the area for some time. John’s behaviour has raised concerns and he is also believed to have medical issues that are compounding the problem. The meeting is being attended by a doctor from the local walk-in clinic, a social worker, the SEN Co-ordinator of the school John has attended locally from time to time and yourself. John’s parents have been asked to attend but it is thought that they probably won’t do so.
  1. How could you prepare for the meeting?
  2. What might affect the ability of the various attendees to work in partnership?
  3. Who else might be appropriate to suggest is invited to the meeting, and what could they bring to the partnership?
It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the response you have chosen to this scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague and ask them to tell you if they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your assessor.
