Understand how to manage a team

Case Study

Imagine that you have been working with a team of 8 people that get on well together and are very effective in achieving the goals set for them.Recently two members of that team have both gone on maternity leave and they have been replaced by an experienced member of staff who has been brought in from another team, and by a 17-year-old who has just started her training.
  1. What problems might the team experience when dealing with the loss of their team members and the introduction of these new people?
  2. How can you develop the trust and accountability of these new members?
  3. Describe some of the strategies you might use to promote and rekindle the shared purpose within the team.
  4. It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the responses you have to the above scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague or friend and ask them to tell you whether they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your assessor.
