Be able to support the work of the team

Case Study

Lisa is an experienced teaching assistant working with Tom, an eight-year-old with Down’s Syndrome. It is the beginning of a new school year and Lisa is working with Sam, a teacher who is new to the school. Lisa has always been involved with all the professionals, both internal and external, who support Tom but is concerned Sam does not understand the need for her to be included in meetings with the new speech and language therapist.
  1. How can Lisa explain to Sam how including her in the meetings supports the purpose and objective of the team supporting Tom?
  2. How does being included in the meeting enable her to perform tasks related to own role and responsibilities within the team?
It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the response you have chosen to this scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague and ask them to tell you if they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your tutor.
