Case Study
You have been asked by the class teacher to take a group of eight children for a philosophy session. You choose the story ‘Not Now Bernard’ by David McKee* as your starting point for a discussion on what makes a good parent. *This young children’s story can be used with any age group and simply tells the tale of two parents who do not give their son, Bernard, time and attention. They do not notice that a monster eats Bernard, comes into the house and takes his place in the family.

It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the response you have chosen to this scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague and ask them to tell you if they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your tutor.
