Case Study

You are going to be babysitting for a family and you are looking around the house before the family leave. You notice that the kettle is on a very low work surface. The home belongs to this family and they are employing you, so you need to address issues in a way that is helpful and respectful.
- What would you say to the parent so that you can tactfully point out the danger without implying that they were a bad parent?
- If the parents will not move the kettle to a safer place, what would you do?
It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the responses you have to the above scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague or friend and ask them to tell you whether they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your assessor.
