Know age-appropriate toys and activities for young children from birth to 5 years 11 months

Case Study

You are organising a painting activity for two children in your care: one aged two years and one aged 5 years. You are considering how you could adapt the painting activity to allow them both to benefit from and enjoy it.
  1. Plan out how you will make this activity appropriate for both children. Your plan should consider the following points:
    • What the child can do at the age given
    • What the child can say and understand.
    • The paper size
    • The choice of colours
    • Paintbrush sizes
    • Vocabulary
It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the responses you have to the above scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague or friend and ask them to tell you whether they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your assessor.
