Case Study

You have a child in your care, aged 3 and a half years old who has a very definite love of dinosaurs – so much so that he wants to be a dinosaur! The child is usually a quiet individual, but has confided to you that he wants to eat dinosaur food, do dinosaur activities and speak like a dinosaur.
- How can you accommodate this love of dinosaurs in a way that respects what the child wants, and is beneficial to him?
- How will you also ensure that he does a good range of daily activities, eats good food and gets plenty of exercise?
It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the responses you have to the above scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague or friend and ask them to tell you whether they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your assessor.
