Know that children have rights

Case Study

You suspect that a 7-year-old child in your care is not being supported properly with their educational development. The child is dyslexic, and is not encouraged to complete work at home and as a result the child is behind their classmates with their literacy and numeracy. When you have raised the issue in the past, the father has simply said that their child is ‘not clever’ and that forcing the child to do their homework will only damage their confidence. The child has overheard their father’s comments and also believes that he is ‘not clever’.
