Growth and development of young children

If you are looking after two children, one aged nine months and another aged three years, how would you provide a physical activity for both in the same play area that is suitable and stimulating to both. Clearly you may not be able to do the very same thing but both activities must be manageable to you as a practitioner at the same time. It is important to consider:
  • Health and safety
  • Communication
  • Physical ability of each child
  • Intellectual development of each child
If you were in a structured day nursery it is unlikely you would ever have to organise two such diverse activities at the same time. However, if you are a mum, nanny or child minder it is very likely that you would have children of quite different ages and stages in your care at the same time.
