Know the responsibilities of parents in relation to providing an environment where a child or children can thrive

Case Study

You are caring for two children in a newly built room that measures 6 meters by 4 metres, with three windows in the wall that stretches down the right-hand side of the room. Only one window opens and none of them have curtains or blinds. The lights are central ceiling strip lights. As the room is newly built you can control the physical environment that you want for the children. Plan the changes you would make to the room and consider how you can make it safe and secure. Think about ways that you can support the children emotionally and socially in the room. The room is a blank canvas in which you want the children to thrive. It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the responses you have to the above scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague or friend and ask them to tell you whether they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your assessor.
