Case Study

You go to visit a close friend who has two young children in bed and one 8-year-old child still watching TV with her. You quickly realise that she has either been drinking excessively or has taken a combination of sleeping medication and a couple of glasses of wine. She does not have a husband, partner or any family close by.
- What would you do? In your answer, consider the following factors:
- Her safety
- The safety of the children
- Your relationship with her
- Your responsibilities to your own family
It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the responses you have to the above scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague or friend and ask them to tell you whether they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your assessor.
