Case Study

A friend of yours has been to a party and has had unprotected sex. She confides in you that she is scared that she could be pregnant and asks for your advice.
- What would you say to her, and what factors might affect the advice that you give your friend? Consider each of the following issues:
- How long ago the party was
- Your friend's age
- Are there any religious commitments or beliefs?
- What is the relationship between your friend and her sexual partner?
- Confidentiality
- The possibility of STDs.
It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the responses you have to the above scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague or friend and ask them to tell you whether they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your assessor.
