Understand the role of observation when working with children

Case Study

You have been asked to work in a different room for the next two weeks while one of the members of staff is on Jury Duty. In order to prepare for this you have asked one of the members of staff in that room if you can see the most recent observations on the children you will be working with. You are told that all observations are confidential and so you cannot be allowed access to them.
  1. Why is it important to keep observations confidential?
  2. Who is entitled to see confidential observations?
  3. How will you respond to this member of staff’s comments?
It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the response you have chosen to this scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague and ask them to tell you if they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your tutor.
