NB You do not need to buy these books. You should be able to borrow them from your local library or from your setting.
Borrow a copy of ‘Planning for Children’s Play and learning: Meeting children’s needs in the later stage of the EYFS’ Jane Drake (Routledge 4th Edition 2013). The book includes chapters on planning, linking with parents and observations.
Borrow a copy of ‘Planning for the Early Years Foundation Stage’ by Sandra Smidt (Routledge 2009). This book is part of the Practical Guidance in the EYFS series. Chapter one looks at the benefits of planning, while chapters 2 and 3 looks at planning for learning.
Read from page 6 to read examples of how observations of a child’s interests can be developed and used for planning. This document is from New Zealand’s Ministry of Education and is ‘An introduction to Kei Tua o te Pae/Assessment for Learning’.
This section of the Wigan Council website contains templates that have been written to support with planning and assessment to reflect the language and ethos of the EYFS.
