You are a new manager in a setting and wish to introduce the team to Active Support. You have been on awareness and training sessions and are keen to introduce the ideas into your setting which caters for a small group of individuals with learning disabilities.The team have worked together for a number of years and are keen to congratulate themselves on the work they do supporting the service users. They have adopted a very maternal attitude to the service users and proudly tell you how well the team look after the service users ‘just as if they were living in a hotel’.

It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the responses you have to the above scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague or friend and ask them to tell you whether they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary.
