Be able to carry out own responsibilities for health and safety

Case Study

You are working in a care home and a new cleaner has just been appointed. Unfortunately the cleaning supervisor is ill today and so the new cleaner is trying to do the work of two people. You notice that she is not wearing gloves when cleaning the bathrooms and toilet. You are also not sure what products she is using as the bottle is not labelled.
  1. What risks are apparent from the scenario?
  2. What training should the new cleaner have received?
  3. What can you do to reduce the risks you have identified?
It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the response you have chosen to this scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague and ask them to tell you if they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your tutor.
