Case Study
Claire is a mum of 3 children who are now all in their teens and at secondary school. Claire now has a few hours a day spare and would like to use some of that time to help her local nursery school as she knows just how hard the staff work and how much time you need to give each child in your care a sense of value. Claire approaches the school and talks to the head of nursery about her spare time and that she would like to come and help them, just to be an extra pair of hands, a listening ear, and bring a bit of her experience in as and when appropriate.
The head teacher is delighted and starts the application ball rolling. Claire wants to start straight away but she is told it will be about 4-6 weeks before she can start as she needs to complete some paperwork, get a DBS check, and references need to be collected.
Claire is disappointed as she thought they would just jump for joy and start her the next day!
The nursery head asks Claire to take home copies of some setting policies to read before she stars her volunteer work and gives her a questionnaire to complete and sign about the policies before she would be allowed to start her role.
