Case Study

There are 4 nursery practitioners in Paddington Bear room and they want to have a healthy eating event. This has come about due to several parents being upset that some children are bringing packed lunches to the nursery with sugary and processed food in them, and then their child who is been given a healthy lunch is getting upset and refusing to eat. Jacintha is the room leader, so she calls the meeting, but she wants Melanie the unqualified room assistant to do most of the project work. Melanie has a very strong interest in nutrition and is delighted to be asked. One of the other team members, however, thinks this is unacceptable as Melanie is an unqualified assistant.
  1. Does it matter if an unqualified member of staff heads up a project like this?
  2. Why is it better to have this project lead by someone really interested in nutrition?
  3. What could be causing other staff to complain about Melanie getting this responsibility?
It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the response you have chosen to this scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague and ask them to tell you if they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your tutor.
