Understand the influence of pedagogical approaches on early years practice

Case Study

Three members of staff have recently completed their Early Years Educator (EYE) Level 3 Diploma. They share with you as their manager that during their course they were encouraged to reflect on the impact of enabling environments. They have discussed this amongst themselves and are keen to make some changes to the settings environment to further reflect the current children’s needs and interests. However, it was not that long ago since you reviewed the environment and you feel quite pleased with the outcome.
  1. Take into consideration your own feelings and the feelings of your staff and discuss how you would address this situation.
  2. If you were able to meet these requests, what evidence would you need from your staff before implementing any changes?
  3. If you were not able to meet these requests, consider how you could approach this situation whilst still supporting staff’s continuous professional development.
It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the response you have chosen to this scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague and ask them to tell you if they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your tutor.
