Case Study
Cecilia, who is 2 years old, is refusing to eat her lunch and becomes distressed at mealtimes.Cecilia’s mum tells you that the only way she can get Cecilia to eat is by allowing her to watch children’s TV on her mobile phone, to distract her whilst she eats. You inform Cecilia’s mum that as part of your well-being policy, children are encouraged to sit together and socialise at mealtimes.
- What could the practitioner do to support Cecilia to eat at the table with the other children?
- What advice and guidance can the practitioner provide Cecilia’s mum with to support collaborative working?
- Consider strategies involving mum.
- Consider what information you would have gathered prior to Cecilia starting the nursery.
- How can other members of the team support you as Cecilia’s key worker?
It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the response you have chosen to this scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague and ask them to tell you if they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your tutor.
