Case Study
Your setting has noticed that a large number of the children are dropped off by mothers or other female carers, and that the few men who do drop off children do not stop to talk or get involved in the activities of the setting.
You have decided to try to run events designed to encourage the fathers and male carers to be more engaged.
- What activities could you run that would encourage more dads to take an active role in their child’s play, learning and development?
- You cannot assume every family has one mum and one dad; how can you advertise your activities to be inclusive?
It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the response you have chosen to this scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague and ask them to tell you if they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your tutor.
