Lead practice in promoting the well-being and resilience in children

Case Study

A number of the practitioners in your setting have expressed concern about the health of some of the children in your setting. Several room leaders have mentioned that their class are reluctant to run around and appear to be significantly over their ideal weight. However, they have also noticed some very young children are already worrying that they are ‘too fat’ or ‘ugly’.
  1. What could you do to promote healthy lifestyles in the setting?
  2. What could you do to promote positive attitudes towards body image at the setting?
  3. What could you do to avoid making children and parents more self-conscious?
  4. How could you evaluate the effectiveness of any ideas you put into place?
It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the response you have chosen to this scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague and ask them to tell you if they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your tutor.
