Supporting children with Special Educational Needs and Disability in an Early Years Setting

Case Study

You are organising a trip to Windsor Castle for a group of 4 year olds. One child is partially sighted, one child is in a wheelchair, and one of your children had a traumatic experience in infancy involving a confined space and now dislikes lifts or elevators.
  1. Which of your setting’s policies and procedures would apply here?
  2. What will you need to consider to ensure that everyone can actively participate?
  3. What is your role in supporting children with special educational needs or disabilities on this trip?
It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the response you have chosen to this scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague and ask them to tell you if they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your tutor.
