Case Study
Emily is a 12-year-old child who is a regular visitor to your setting, since she comes to visit her aunt, sometimes with her cousin and sometimes with her own parents. She is friendly and usually has an outgoing personality. Recently she has become quite reserved and reluctant to get involved with any activities; she has also taken to wearing long baggy trousers and long sleeved tops, even in the height of summer when other children are wearing shorts. You have noticed several bruises on her ankles and wrists, but when you ask her about them she said this is from looking after her new pony.
- Would any of these changes indicate child abuse?
- If so what type?
- What action should be taken by you if you notice these changes?
- Do you discuss it with her parents?
