Support the creativity of children and young people

Case Study

You have a thoughtful and quiet child in your setting who gets very upset when the group is doing any messy creative activities. He does not like his hands to get messy and he gets visibly upset if he gets paint or other messy materials on his apron or clothes. Therefore he does not really engage with the activity and finds it very distressing.
  1. How would you encourage this child to engage in creative play and to be happy and positive about doing so?
It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the response you have chosen to this scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague and ask them to tell you if they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your tutor.
