Understand how to create a business plan

Case Study

Sharon, who has just registered as a childminder, looks after two of her own children and Ben, aged three, whom she childminds. For the first two months, Ben’s mother paid her fees regularly at the start of each week. For the past two weeks, she has given excuses for not paying: she hasn’t got her cheque book with her; she forgot to draw out cash from the machine, and so on. Sharon feels very anxious the weekend before the third Monday, as she has not been paid for the last two weeks. Her partner has been nagging her, saying that her childminding is not a charity and she must be more businesslike. On Monday Ben’s mother says she has forgotten her cheque book and offers half a week’s fee in cash.
  1. What should Sharon’s immediate response be?
  2. How can she prevent this happening again?
It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the response you have chosen to this scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague and ask them to tell you if they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your tutor.
