Case Study

You have just attended training on person-centred planning with your colleagues from the staff team. You found the whole concept fascinating and you are keen to start implementing this in your service. Your colleagues, however, are very dismissive of the whole idea. They have worked in the service for a number of years and tell you that person-centred planning has been around for years and this is nothing new. They also claim that they are already person-centred in the way they support their service users. You are certain, however, that person-centred thinking and planning does not happen in the service. 1. How do you respond? 2. What could you do to encourage the implementation of person-centred approaches in the setting? It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the response you have chosen to this scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague and ask them to tell you if they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your tutor.
