Case Study
Leo, a 6 year old boy in your class, is struggling with impulse control. He pushes in line when children are queuing for lunch and will often shout out answers in class instead of putting his hand up. You are worried about his safety at the setting too as he likes climbing trees during break times and encourages other children to join him.
- What area of development is impulse control related to?
- What activities can you plan for Leo that will help develop impulse control skills?
It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the response you have chosen to this scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague and ask them to tell you if they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your tutor.
