Case Study
Saskia has only recently joined your setting and seems withdrawn. You go to the corner where she is sitting by herself and tell her you are going to read her a story. As you settle yourself close to Saskia and open the book, she begins to cry and asks you not to hurt her.
- How will you deal with Saskia’s reactions and comments?
- Who, if anyone, needs to know about Saskia’s reactions and comments?
- How can you ensure that comments like those made by Saskia do not result in you being suspected of inappropriate or unprofessional practice?
It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the response you have chosen to this scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague and ask them to tell you if they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your tutor.
