Case Study
Evie is from a traveller family new to the area. Her family are under pressure to ‘move on’ and face hostility from the local community every day. Some carers at your Children’s Centre setting have told their children to stay away from Evie. You have carried out a number of activities with the children to encourage awareness and understanding of Gypsy Roma and Traveller culture and feel this is having a positive effect. However you are concerned that carers’ hostility is not showing the same improvement.
- What legislation, policies, regulations and codes of practice are relevant in this situation, and what do they tell you about how you should respond to it?
It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the response you have chosen to this scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague and ask them to tell you if they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your assessor.
