Case Study
A number of the Teachers have expressed concern about the health of some of the children in Year 7. Several Teachers and Learning Support Assistants have mentioned that their class are reluctant to move and run around and appear to be significantly over their ideal weight. However, they have also noticed some of the children are already struggling with their positive body image and have heard a few of them saying they are ‘ugly’.
- What could you do to promote healthy lifestyles at the school, with a particular emphasis on this Year Group?
- What could you do to promote positive attitudes towards body image at the school?
- What could you do to avoid making children and parents feel more self-conscious?
- How could you evaluate the effectiveness of any ideas you put into place?
It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the response you have chosen to this scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague and ask them to tell you if they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your tutor.
